Leftmedia Smears Vance as Heartless Over School Shootings
By turning what he said on its head, the AP and others betrayed true journalism.
There’s an old maxim that says, “A lie travels around the globe while the truth is putting on its shoes.” That’s even more true when the mainstream media traffics in lies, half-truths, and misrepresentations.
“JD Vance says school shootings are a ‘fact of life,’ calls for better security,” said the Associated Press in a now-deleted post on X.
The AP deleted it after being called out for its gross lie — Vance said almost the exact opposite of the first half of the AP’s framing. “I don’t like that this is a fact of life,” Vance actually said after last week’s school shooting in Georgia. “But if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realize that our schools are soft targets. And we have got to bolster security at our schools. We’ve got to bolster security so if a psycho wants to walk through the front door and kill a bunch of children, they’re not able.”
Again, that’s utterly different than what you’d think he said after reading the AP’s tweet and headline, which 2.5 million people did. And the AP wasn’t alone.
The Washington Post’s headline remains unchanged: “JD Vance calls reality of school shootings a bleak ‘fact of life.’”
USA Today columnist Rex Huppke’s hysterical headline is likewise still live: “Vance says school shootings are ‘a fact of life.’ That’s cowardice, not leadership.” He falsely frames Vance as saying such violence is “our reality that just has to be accepted” and calls the senator the real “psycho.”
I could list others, but you get the point.
We should be outraged at the reality of school shootings. Vance certainly is. He didn’t shrug his shoulders and say this just can’t be helped. He offered concrete solutions that would turn the tide.
But because Vance did not do what Democrats do and stand on the caskets of children and beat the drum for gun control, the Leftmedia chose to smear him as callous and obtuse. Yet he’s absolutely right. Putting a “gun free zone” sticker on your door and calling it a day isn’t going to cut it. Taking guns from law-abiding citizens isn’t going to keep them out of the hands of criminals.
Those rights-infringing “solutions” are all the Left ever has to offer.
Well, that and lies about what non-leftists say about guns.
I know this, and you know this, but millions of Americans consume little besides mainstream media headlines or snippets on cable TV. Only a fraction of people see corrections. Therein lies the problem.
Social media companies aren’t going to censor this stuff, either. That’s because they rely on “independent third-party fact-checkers” … who just happen to be Leftmedia goons. They are certainly not out there correcting the record on this one.
The Washington Post’s resident “fact-checker” won’t call out his own paper. In fact, the Post’s last six “fact-checks” are anti-Trump hit pieces.
PolitiFact is no better. Its page is primarily littered with “mostly false” or “pants on fire!” ratings for something that Donald Trump said — usually something that was Trumpian exaggeration of the truth. USA Today is busy with Kathy Hochul’s eyes while receiving a COVID shot or a fake video of Tim Walz dancing in a cowboy outfit. Snopes is preoccupied with telling us that Walz family members in all those viral Trump T-shirts are nothing more than “distant cousins.”
The real “fact of life” here is that you can’t trust the Leftmedia or its army of “fact-checkers.”
