“Every single one of the recent violent episodes — mass shootings, stabbings, running cars into crowds — has a common denominator: the perpetrator almost always had a long history of mental illness. Ever since the closing of long-term psychiatric asylums, mentally ill persons have been allowed to wander aimlessly in the streets, inflicting horror and death upon innocent victims. “Most of what I had planned to comment has been covered by your post, except the absurdity of charging people for coverage they will never use, such as pregnancy for males and prostate for females. That’s such an obvious ‘gimme’ to the health insurance companies. Another is the sloppy policing of fraud. A good first step would be to show people what their procedures and drugs actually cost so they can judge whether they should be paying for that out of pocket instead of using insurance.” —Ontario, Canada
