One Doctor’s Radical Solution Means Better Health Care
One reason health care and insurance costs are so astronomical is because hospitals charge different amounts for identical procedures. Something that cost $45 at one clinic may be closer to $300 somewhere else, for example. And unlike a grocery, hospitals don’t provide spreadsheets with pricing, making shopping for a better deal nearly impossible. But one doctor is taking a radical approach – one that is helping both his practice and patients. The Daily Signal reports, “Dr. Keith Smith, director of the Surgery Center of Oklahoma, posted all the prices for his center’s surgeries online. Today he’s expanding, looking to build two more operating rooms.” Not so coincidentally, the majority of those in his patient pool are insured through ObamaCare, meaning they have high deductibles. “Smith does not accept government funding and is not bound by administrative ‘red tape’ that bog down most hospitals,” the Signal explains. “For example, the center doesn’t have to comply with hospital standards for electronic documentation.” This means additional patient-doctor time.
