Oregon’s First Lady Married Man Needing Green Card for $5,000
It was one line in the Willamette Week’s damning article on Oregon’s First Lady, Cylvia Hayes: “(In August, [Oregon’s Governor John] Kitzhaber and Hayes announced their engagement. Kitzhaber has been married twice; court records show Hayes has been married three times.)” Until the story broke, Hayes was telling the press and her future husband she had married twice. The court records didn’t lie: Hayes’ third marriage was to an Ethiopian man looking to get a green card in the United States. He paid her $5,000 dollars. The Week’s article paints a picture of a first lady (she assumed the role before the marriage) who on one hand, advises and supports her fiancé the governor, and with the other, runs a political consulting business to leverage her political power to the highest bidder. “This is the most painful part for me,” Hayes said. “John Kitzhaber deserved to know the history of the person he was forming a relationship with. The fact that I did not disclose this to him meant that he has learned about this in the most public and unpleasant way.” Not only does the Left undermine marriage and refuse to enforce immigration laws, it’s comfortable breaking those very laws.
