Rangel Denies ‘Dead Cops’ Chant Until Confronted With Video
Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) denied that protesters in New York had chanted “What do we want? Dead cops! When do we want them? Now!” before two police officers were murdered over the weekend. Rangel argued on CNN that we should mourn the murders and, therefore, now is not the time to debate problems with the police. “But it is the time, congressman,” insisted CNN anchor Ashleigh Banfield. “There are people are marching through the streets calling for dead cops in New York.” Rangel dismissed that charge: “They are not, they are not.” Banfield couldn’t believe Rangel’s denial, so CNN cut to the video of protesters chanting their heinous slogan. Confronted with undeniable proof, Rangel, to his credit, said such behavior is “not acceptable” and “we should condemn it.” But, he said – there’s always a “but” – “we shouldn’t just concentrate on that.” Because the Left can’t let the evidence derail its agenda.
