‘New York Values’ on Display at 9/11 Memorial
Sing the national anthem? Not without a permit.
The Waynesville Middle School choir traveled from North Carolina to New York last week. The students visited the 9/11 Memorial, and began singing the national anthem. Unfortunately for them, to do such a patriotic thing, you need a permit. “Basically, they performed approximately half of the National Anthem and they were told by security to cease and desist,” Waynesville Middle School principal Trevor Putnam said. “And they, of course, complied immediately.”
That’s right. Halfway through our nation’s official anthem, the students were forced to stop. What an absolute disgrace. Is this what Donald Trump meant when he turned “New York values” into a reference about 9/11?
