Leftmedia Trumps Trump
Why is The Donald set to lose a very winnable election?
As the Leftmedia is more than happy to report all day every day, Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump in the polls — both nationally and in the all-important battleground states. If these numbers hold up on Election Day, Clinton will win in a route. “The tragedy is that this is happening in a year when Republicans should win,” writes The Wall Street Journal. “The political scientist Alan Abramowitz has spent years developing his ‘time for a change’ forecasting model. The model looks at the rate of GDP growth in the second quarter of an election year (1.2% this year), the incumbent President’s approval rating, and the electorate’s desire for change after one party has held the White House for eight years. No model is perfect, but Mr. Abramowitz’s has predicted the winner of the major-party popular vote in every presidential election since 1988. His model predicts that Mr. Trump should win a narrow victory with 51.4%. A mainstream GOP candidate who runs a reasonably competent campaign would have about a 66% chance of victory.”
So what gives?
Well, Abramowitz’s model is built with a generic candidate in mind, and Trump is anything but generic. And the only presidential candidate in history liked less than Clinton is Trump. A big part of that is the Leftmedia’s antagonism. Trump was their favorite candidate from the Republican field of far more qualified and, yes, “generic” contestants — that’s why they gave him billions of dollars in free coverage that swamped all competitors. Thus, he won support from people intending to “stick it to the media.” Predictably, however (and we predicted it), now that he’s the nominee, the Leftmedia have turned all their energy into bashing him. And he’s supplying the bat.
Is the media crooked like Hillary? Yes. Are they her number one super PAC. Definitely. But Trump isn’t going to win by complaining about it. “I’m not running against Crooked Hillary, I’m running against the crooked media,” Trump said this weekend. “That’s what I’m running against, I’m not running against Crooked Hillary.”
Wrong. He’s got to get voters to see that it’s Hillary Clinton and her scandalous corruption that is unpalatable.
