Immediate Deportation of Illegal Aliens?
The issue is abuse of asylum requests made by people caught illegally crossing the border.
In the midst of the Demo/MSM-created anti-Trump immigration media blitz over President Donald Trump’s effort to enforce our nation’s immigration and border laws, specifically over the issue of separating children from parents who have been caught illegally crossing the border, Trump signed an executive order to change the separation policy. At the same time, he doubled down on his commitment to enforce the border laws by insisting that illegal alien families would be detained together but not released until their cases have been adjudicated. This stance quickly triggered more howls of outrage from the self-proclaimed arbiters of “morality” within the Democrat Party and the MSM.
On Sunday, Trump responded, “We cannot allow all of these people to invade our Country. When somebody comes in, we must immediately, with no Judge or Court Cases, bring them back from where they came. Our system is a mockery to good immigration policy and Law and Order. Most children come without parents.” He added, “Cannot accept all of the people trying to break into our Country. Strong Border, No Crime!”
Trump’s talk of illegal aliens “invading” the U.S. is not hyperbole, either. Hard-left Mexican presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is actively calling for migrants to flood the U.S., saying recently that migrants “must leave their towns and find a life in the United States.” He added, “We will defend all the migrants in the American continent and all the migrants in the world.” Obrador is well ahead in the polls, making him the odds-on favorite to win the Mexican presidency in July.
One of the growing problems for the Trump administration is how to deal with the immense volume of asylum requests that is straining the courts’ ability to handle them in a timely manner. The reality on the ground is that when people are caught illegally crossing the border, they often then make asylum requests. They’re likely coached to do so, because they instigate a process that will be tied up in the courts for months, if not years — all while they remain in the U.S.
Emily Zanotti of The Daily Wire explains, “The Obama Administration would often give each asylum seeker a court date and allow them to remain in the U.S. with friends or family members, a policy often called ‘catch-and-release.’ The Trump administration has been detaining asylum seekers, but now that they must detain families together, they run up against the infamous Flores decision, which mandates that the U.S. cannot keep children detained with their parents for more than 20 days.”
What Trump did over the weekend was say that, rather than detain families and be confronted with the separation conundrum, he’d prefer to just deport them immediately.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Trump highlighted the gravity of the illegal immigration problem by honoring Angel Families, a group of families who are victims of crimes committed by illegal aliens. Trump stated, “We’re gathered today to hear directly from the American victims of illegal immigration. … These are the American citizens permanently separated from their loved ones — the word ‘permanently’ being the word that you have to think about — permanently. They’re not separated for a day or two. These are permanently separated, because they were killed by criminal illegal aliens. These are the families the media ignores.” And they’re ignored because they don’t serve the Democrat Narrative™.
