House Republicans Fare Better Than Predicted

While Democrats will maintain their majority, the GOP made some important gains.

After last night, one thing’s for sure: Never trust the polling. As we await the results to find out if President Donald Trump has won a second term, it appears clear that, while Republicans will not regain control of the House, they have bested projections. As of this writing, Republicans have gained a total of five seats and look poised to pick up five more, whittling down the Democrats’ 32-seat majority.

Unfortunately, the result means that Speaker Nancy Pelosi will certainly retain her leadership position, as she plans to run for the post again and will likely face no serious opposition. But some Democrats are voicing concern about seats lost because of their leftist messaging.

The results for a couple of young Republican rising stars proved to be a bit of a mixed bag. Kim Klacik, whose Baltimore campaign commercial went viral, failed to even make a dent in Democrat incumbent Kweisi Mfume, as she lost the vote by a nearly three-to-one margin. Lamenting the lopsided results, Klacik stated, “We gave it our best shot! So proud of my team. It’s sad someone that doesn’t lift a finger could win a congressional seat just by name, but this is not the end.” However, she also expressed confidence for the future in her concession: “This is still a win. Congratulations [Mfume]. Prepare to be held accountable like never before.”

Unfortunately, if the residents of places like Baltimore don’t actually vote to improve their representation, their cities will continue to crumble.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old wheelchair-bound Madison Cawthorn bested Democrat incumbent Moe Davis for North Carolina’s 11th District. The inspirational young man who called on Republicans to “have a bolder tent” responded to his victory by saying, “First thing we did was bow our heads, give all the glory to the Lord and then we just started celebrating. What a whirlwind. What a ride. What an honor.” He then immediately took on extreme-left “Squad” member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, asserting, “The days of AOC and the far Left misleading the next generation of Americans are numbered. Tonight, the voters of Western North Carolina chose to stand for freedom and a new generation of leadership in Washington.”

Nevertheless, look for a lot more of the same from the Pelosi-led Democrats in the House. More investigations of Trump, win or lose, and more obstinacy when it comes to negotiating with the Republican Senate. Gridlock is fun, right?
