Jen Psaki is getting out at the right time, and she knows it.

The questions in the coming days, weeks, and months aren’t going to get any easier, and her calculated evasions and obfuscations as the White House press secretary are going to become less and less believable and less and less honorable. Obfuscations such as this, for example:

Fox News reporter Peter Doocy: “The president has said that he never spoke to his son about his overseas business dealings. Is that still the case?”

Jen Psaki: “Yes.”

By now, we know this to be false. Heck, it’s probably false even if we exclude the dozen times we know of that he got involved in his son’s overseas business dealings: the letters of recommendation, the Air Force 2 trip, Hunter’s texted remark to his daughter about having to give “Pop” half his salary, the golf outings with the Burisma guys, the meetings with the Ukrainians, the meetings with the Kazakhs, the meetings with the Mexicans — you get the idea.

But perhaps the biggest of the Big Lies Biden has told about his son is the one he whipped out in the final presidential debate of 2020. As our Mark Alexander notes, that’s when he “wagged his finger at Donald Trump and declared: ‘My son has not made money in terms of this thing about, what are you talking about, China. The only guy who made money from China is this guy [Trump]. He’s the only one. Nobody else has made money from China.’”

Uh-huh.

Doocy himself set the hook for this lie back in 2019, during a campaign event in Iowa, where then-candidate Biden told him, “I have never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings.”

Ah, never. The word is deliciously precise, and that makes it relatively easy to fact-check — especially when there are pictures of both Bidens golfing with Hunter’s Burisma buddies, and when there is testimony from the likes of another former Biden business partner, Tony Bobulinski, about his face-to-face business meeting with Joe, whom he swears is “the big guy” mentioned in one of Hunter’s email threads about monetary payouts. If “never” means never, then Joe Biden is lying.

We know what you’re thinking: This is Fox News stuff. No one on the Left is listening. But consider the story reported Wednesday evening by CBS News — yes, CBS News — which sounded like something we might hear from a legitimate news network: “More than 150 transactions involving either Hunter or James Biden’s global business affairs were flagged as concerning by U.S. banks for further review. Some of those concerns included large wire transfers. Such banking reviews could point to deeper problems — or they could prove innocuous. Information shared with CBS News does not indicate the outcome of the banking reviews.”

Interesting stuff. A couple of years late, but still. So why would a reliably Democrat-friendly network like CBS give out the whiff of something scandalous when it doesn’t yet have the whole story, when it doesn’t yet have the results of those banking reviews? Why not instead do what the mainstream media always does for Democrats — sit on the story until they get bedsores? Why bring it out now, without Fox News holding a credibility gun to their heads?

The answer, it seems, is that the mainstream media no longer sees Joe Biden as salvageable. They no longer see his presidency as sustainable, to use a favorite term of the Left. Month upon month upon month of miserable polling will do that to a guy. No, they never came to this conclusion with Barack Obama, but Obama was never a dementing 79-year-old backslapper polling in the high-30s.

When a Democrat president has lost CBS News…

Going forward, we can probably expect more of this sort of reporting from the mainstream media. Because it’s out there. And if it becomes clear that they’re protecting a corrupt president, it won’t be good for business. Today, though, we’ll content ourselves with the New York Post, which seems to throw one haymaker after another at the Biden Crime Family. As the Post reported Wednesday, Biden’s corporate tax returns “account for more than $13 million in income that he and First Lady Jill Biden reported to the IRS between 2017 and 2019, in between his stints as vice president and commander in chief.”

Did all that come from book sales and speaking fees, as a 2020 USA Today “fact-check” seemed to suggest? Inquiring minds want to know. As George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley told the Post via email: “The president’s past denials of any knowledge or involvement with his son’s business dealings now stands contradicted not only by witnesses and e-mails but also by Hunter Biden himself. Full disclosure and transparency would seem, at a minimum, warranted given the growing controversy.”
