Will Woke Disney Go Broke?
Most Americans say they’ll take their money elsewhere if the House of Mickey keeps trying to sexualize their children.
For the life of us, we can’t figure out Disney. For decades a wholesome, iconic, and all-powerful brand, the company has gone clean off the rails in recent years. Today’s Disney seems little more than a tool of the Rainbow Mafia, a useful idiot for the sexual grooming of children. And if this is your sense of it, a new poll suggests you’re not alone.
More than 68% of likely voters say they’re less likely to do business with Disney, given its increasingly ambitious focus on creating content to expose young children to sexual ideas. That’s the top-line finding of a poll conducted April 5-8 by the Trafalgar Group. Only 9% of respondents said they’d be more likely to do business with Disney, and 23% said the company’s hypersexual approach made no difference to them.
The company’s shareholders might also be interested to know that 57% of respondents said they’d support “family-friendly alternatives to Disney.”
As far as party affiliation, 85% of Republicans said they were less likely to spend their money with Woke Disney, while only 4% said they’d be more likely to do so. As for Democrats, 48% said they’d be less likely, while only 14% said they’d be more so. A whopping 37% of Democrats said they were indifferent — which makes us wonder what kinds of encroachments upon their children will actually rankle them.
Of greatest concern to the Democrats should be the poll’s finding among independent voters. The split among nonaffiliated respondents was nearly as large as it was among Republicans, 73% to 9%. Suffice it to say that the Left has once again snuggled up to a dog with fleas. And just as the teaching of critical race theory in Loudoun County, Virginia, and elsewhere became a huge force for voter turnout during last year’s off-cycle elections, the issue of the Left’s efforts to sexualize our children bears watching between now and November 8.
We can hear them now, though — those on the Left trying to downplay parental concerns about the grooming of our kids. As Christopher Rufo writes in City Journal:
In the wake of the controversy surrounding Florida’s Parental Rights in Education legislation, which prohibits public schools from teaching gender identity and sexual orientation in kindergarten through third grade, the national media has sought to paint conservative opposition as hysterical, anti-LGBTQ, and conspiracy-minded. The New York Times, for example, accused conservatives of having a “freakout” about imaginary “grooming” in public schools, and the Washington Post dismissed concerns about sexual abuse by teachers as a “QAnon conspiracy.”
As was the case last year with CRT, this is no “freakout.” It’s parents exercising their fundamental rights — indeed, their fundamental responsibilities — as mothers and fathers.
As for Disney, perhaps its day of reckoning is drawing near. “The company isn’t for kids,” writes columnist Daniel Greenfield, “it’s for broken adults.” Further, as our Nate Jackson wrote Monday: “Disney is now, by the admission of its own executives, actively working to indoctrinate children that the ‘LGBTQ’ lifestyle is not only diverse but desirable. That’s going to happen via drastically increased ‘representation’ of homosexuals, ‘transgender’ individuals, and others in Disney shows and movies. It’s not just a deep distortion of the whole ‘looks like America’ canard; it’s a recruitment effort.”
Indeed, it is recruitment. It is grooming. And we can’t refrain from calling it that at every turn.
Wokeness is an ugly thing. And, as it turns out, a potentially ruinous thing for Disney — especially when its activities attempt to come between American parents and that thing in life they adore and cherish most: their children.
