Woodward v. Trump: The ‘Bombshell’ That Wasn’t

Bob Woodward is a washed-up leftist and a profiteering political hack.

A political bombshell has blown up — a more egregious assault on our nation than any aspect of the Watergate break-in during Richard Nixon’s administration almost 50 years ago. Every civil libertarian of any political stripe with an ounce of integrity should be denouncing this assault from the mountaintops.

No, I am not referring to the latest lame profiteering political hack job from WaPo’s washed-up Watergate-era reporter Bob Woodward, who hasn’t produced a bombshell since “deep throat” fell into his lap, and that of his fellow Watergate scribe, Carl Bernstein.

I am referring of course to the fact that, on a daily basis now, more evidence is emerging tying Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, and by extension Joe Biden, directly to the orchestrated coup attempt to take down the presidency of Donald Trump. This week, that evidence includes the fact that the data on 27 phones used by key Mueller investigators was “wiped clean” before the DoJ IG could review them. (Shades of Hillary’s hard drive cleansing!)

Predictably, Democrat Party principals are ducking those revelations, and their Leftmedia publicists are covering for them.

This week, the cover story is Woodward’s transparent attempt to provide Biden and Kamala Harris fodder for their disingenuous and fallacious campaign theme, insisting Donald Trump was negligent in his handling of our nation’s response to the CV19 pandemic.

As Thomas Gallatin noted earlier this week regarding Woodward’s fabricated Rage book BS, while it’s clear that offering quotes from Trump downplaying the emerging COVID crisis “was intended to goose book sales, the primary motive is one of political calculations” to support the Biden/Harris campaign. Indeed, Woodward admits that his timing was purely political: “If I had done the story at that time about what he knew in February, that’s not telling us anything we didn’t know.”

To that end, regarding Trump’s concerns about the pandemic threat at the time he was doing the Woodward interviews, the President said in a national briefing: “We prepared. We are doing a great job with it. It will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away. … I want to keep the country calm. I don’t want panic in the country.” And there you have it – the “bombshell” that apparently was defused last March.

That notwithstanding, on cue from his puppet handlers, Biden declared: “On the day that we hit 190,000 dead in the United States because of COVID-19, we just learned from the Washington Post columnist Bob Woodward that the president of the United States has admitted on tape in February he knew about COVID-19…how deadly it was. It was much more deadly than the flu. He knew and purposely played it down. Worse, he lied to the American people. He knowingly and willingly lied about the threat it posed to country for months.” Again, patently and demonstrably false.

But Dr. Anthony Fauci confirms that Woodward’s accusations against Trump and Biden’s concurrence, are baseless: “I didn’t get any sense that [Trump] was distorting anything. … I didn’t see any discrepancies between what he told us and what we told him, and what he came out publicly and said.”

Trump’s actions are precisely what we would expect from a responsible president as the nation faces an emerging and deadly crisis — stay calm, don’t panic.

But panic is exactly what the Democrats wanted. In February, I devoted a column, “Democrats Hang 2020 Hopes on Pandemic Recession,” to their predictable politicization of the emerging pandemic, and that politicization is precisely what Woodward was betting on at the time. He held his cards until this week for maximum political and profiteering impact.

So, as Woodward said, if we all knew then why Trump was calming the nation, why is it news now? Well, because most Democrats and their constituents don’t care about facts, the ends always justify the means, and, in this case, Woodward’s specious assertions play right into those ends.

Trump responded to Democrats using Woodward’s claims as political fodder, making clear that his motivation for downplaying the virus was to prevent panic: “The fact is, I’m a cheerleader for this country. I love our country, and I don’t want people to be frightened. … We don’t want to instill panic.”

Meanwhile, a quick review of our comprehensive timeline on COVID makes clear that Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Andrew Cuomo, and other Democrats were opposing President Trump’s efforts to minimize the impact of the disease, as they were downplaying its impact.

Finally, in March 1933, as our nation faced another economic crisis, the Great Depression, then-Democrat President Franklin Roosevelt famously declared in his inaugural speech, “Let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is … fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.” That is precisely the message Trump channeled in February and March.
