Chick-fil-A Is at a Crossroads With Its Leftism Promotion
The Christian fast-food chain is facing pushback from customers for culturally regressing and pandering to the LGBTQ+ community.
It was only a few short years ago that Chick-fil-A (CFA) was publicly criticized by LGBTQ+ activists for not supporting same-sex marriage. At the time, “kiss-in” protests were conducted by homosexuals, and the state of New York declared that the fast-food giant would never establish franchises in the state. Why? Because Truett Cathy, the founder of the franchise, was a strong Christian who wanted his company to reflect the values of the Bible.
Cathy passed away in 2014, and the company began to sell out to leftist cultural tenets in 2019. In a public statement, CFA said it would “leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.” Around the same time, it started donating to far-left organizations such as the Southern Poverty Law Center, a race-baiting hate group that abhors conservatives and promotes violence against them with its “Hate Map.”
In 2023, when all the raging wokeness was peaking, the company hired a DEI executive by the name of Erick McReynolds.
Fast-forward to December 2025. Earlier this month, a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Utah posted a couple of pictures on its public Facebook page. In one image, there are two homosexual men, one being held bridal style by the other. In the second image, they are giving each other a side hug. Both images were taken outside this particular CFA location. The caption declared, “CONGRATULATIONS TO THE HAPPY COUPLE! Dougie & Toby recently got married and we are beyond happy for them! (ring emoji)”
Understandably, there was considerable public outcry. Conservatives have been staunchly supporting the company not only because it makes incredible chicken sandwiches but because it has historically been a Christian company whose corporate purpose is twofold: “To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.”
Same-sex marriage does not glorify our Creator. In fact, it makes a mockery of what He intended. God created marriage as a sacred bond between one man and one woman so that they become one flesh and procreate. Traditional families are the building blocks of society. Same-sex marriage is not.
As The Washington Stand’s Suzanne Bowdey so astutely put it, “Unlike Target or Anheuser-Busch, this company intentionally made religion a part of the chain’s identity. So, it’s a point of legitimate hurt and disappointment that this company keeps profiting from its Christian reputation, only to turn around and sell out those same values.”
Instead of sticking up for the values the corporation purports to support, any complaints made about the Facebook post were given this tawdry response from corporate:
Thank you for contacting Chick-Fil-A CARES. Chick-fil-A embraces all people, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Chick-fil-A, Inc. is committed to being Better at Together by embedding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in everything we do. We strive to provide a welcoming and inclusive place for everyone. We do this by focusing on Chick-fil-A’s four Corporate Social Responsibility Pillars: Caring for People, Caring for our Communities, Caring for Others through our Food, and Caring for our Planet. To learn more, visit our Giving Back page and our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion page.
In other words, the DEI gremlins doubled down.
In 2020, after George Floyd died, many Christians were coerced into believing that empathy and inclusion were the Christian virtues — to the detriment of truth, judgment, repentance, and salvation — and that exclusion or discernment were sins. Celebrating sin became the expectation for everyone, and those Christians who resisted were called bigots.
This past year, however, we’ve seen a significant rollback in DEI, particularly in the corporate world. Its nonsensical and inconsistent demands have been laughed at and ignored in the public square. Wokeness doesn’t represent reality, and it certainly doesn’t reflect Christianity.
That’s why CFA’s double down is so jarring. It’s allowed to grow and change as a company, but promoting DEI and celebrating same-sex marriage are the opposite of “glorify[ing] God with faithful stewardship.” This sort of change is a betrayal of that creed.
Chick-fil-A is at a crossroads. Will it continue to double down on a dying woke and godless trend, or will it pivot back to its original values?
