Early Analysis of the Texas School Attack

Expect the same old arguments from Democrats and leftists against the Second Amendment.

Sadly, America experienced another school attack today, this time at Santa Fe High School, southeast of Houston, Texas. A student with a gun murdered eight students and two teachers just after school began. At least half a dozen are wounded, including a Santa Fe police officer. As always, initial details are fluid, but he reportedly had multiple firearms and pipe bombs.

President Donald Trump responded to the news, stating, “This has been going on too long in our country, too many years, too many decades now. My administration is determined to do everything in our power to protect our students, secure our schools and to keep weapons out of the hands of those who pose a threat to themselves and to others.”

Trump’s frustration is understandable, and we’re glad he’s talking enforcement rather than shooting from the hip on due process. The reality is that adding more onerous laws or loudly issued demands by cultural and political leaders will not change the actual problem: human nature. In fact, catering to the idea that society is the primarily culprit for the criminal behavior of individuals will only lead to greater oppression of individual liberty.

We expect to witness the inevitable flood of gun-blaming Democrats and the anti-Second Amendment activists, who will point to these murders as justification for their calls to further limit Americans’ Second Amendment rights. It’s as predictable as the sun rising tomorrow.

Meanwhile, six people were murdered and another 15 shot in Chicago last weekend. But those Democrat urban poverty plantation deaths don’t get nearly the national press.

A final note: Dixon Police Officer Mark Dallas shot and wounded a would-be mass murderer in Illinois earlier this week, saving who knows how many lives. Given what we found out about the Broward school resource officer, what will we learn in Texas?
