Fauci’s Politicized Forever Pandemic
NIH emails reveal outgoing Director Dr. Francis Collins told Dr. Anthony Fauci to “take down” scientists advocating herd immunity.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, hero of the Leftmedia and everyone else’s favorite COVID punching bag, was busy over the weekend running damage control for the Biden administration while also fear-mongering for the forever pandemic.
Kamala Harris seemingly threw Fauci and company under the bus recently when she stated: “We didn’t see Delta coming. I think most scientists did not — upon whose advice and direction we have relied — didn’t see Delta coming. We didn’t see Omicron coming. And that’s the nature of what this awful virus has been, which as it turns out, has mutations and variants.” Harris added, “We have not been victorious over it. I don’t think in any regard anyone can claim victory when, you know, there are 800,000 people who are dead because of this virus.”
Cue Fauci, who ran to his favorite place — the TV interview. He told CNN: “We definitely saw variants coming. What was not anticipated was the extent of the mutations in the amino acid substitutions in Omicron, which was really unprecedented.”
Meanwhile at ABC, Fauci promoted the forever pandemic. “Are we ever going to get to a point where we won’t need to wear masks on airplanes?” Fauci was asked. He responded, “I don’t think so.”
But that was not the limit of Fauci’s presence in the news. Thanks to a Freedom of Information Act request, it was revealed that retiring National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Francis Collins had directed Fauci to engage in a “quick and devastating take down” of three leading expert epidemiologists over their “Great Barrington Declaration” in which they advocated a strategy of aiming for herd immunity to confront the COVID pandemic. They specifically called for “focused protection” for the most vulnerable in the populace while also rejecting universal lockdowns.
In the NIH emails dating back to Fall 2020, Dr. Collins dismissed these experts as “three fringe epidemiologists” and advised Fauci that “there needs to be a quick and devastating published takedown of its premises.” He then asks, “I don’t see anything like that online yet — is it underway?”
One of the writers of the declaration, Stanford University professor Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, responded to the revelation: “So now I know what it feels like to be the subject of a propaganda attack by my own government. Discussion and engagement would have been a better path.” Doing actual science requires the back and forth of research and challenges, not simply shutting down the objections and labeling those who disagree as “fringe.”
For his part, Dr. Collins doubled down by dubiously asserting that “hundreds of thousands of people would have died if we had followed that strategy.” What’s his evidence? Is he referring to the more than the 800,000 that have died?
Just before the 2020 election, candidate Joe Biden declared, “220,000 deaths. If you hear nothing else I say tonight, hear this: Anyone who is responsible for that many deaths should not remain President of the United States.”
Well, Mark Alexander notes: "“According to the CDC’s Covid death data, the number of ChiCom Virus deaths under Biden since taking office, almost 400,000, is overtaking the number of deaths in the final year of the Trump administration. And Biden has had the added benefit of the Covid vaccine, far improved hospital capability, and treatments for his time in office. So much for his promise ‘to shut down the virus, not the country.’”
Alexander added, “Many of the coming winter deaths will be recorded in states like New York and California, where the Demos’ draconian mandates have prevented reaching herd immunity as a critical measure of protection. Predictably and inevitably, the Left’s never-ending pandemic of fear and angst under the now-authoritarian control of Biden and Fauci, has devolved into mandates that are now predicated on 10% science and 90% power accumulation.”
Of course, Biden’s only unique solution to address the pandemic has been to issue unconstitutional COVID vaccine mandates. And these have served only to turn COVID into a divisive political football resulting in split appellate court rulings, with the latest being a three-judge panel of the Sixth Circuit Court upholding Biden’s mandate on large employers. The issue is clearly headed to the U.S. Supreme Court. In the meantime, COVID is not going away, and Biden has needlessly jeopardized millions of Americans’ livelihoods.
Meanwhile, Biden sends seasons greetings: “I want to send a direct message to the American people… We are looking at a winter of severe illness and death for the unvaccinated – for themselves, their families and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm.”
