NYC Mayor Caves to Rainbow Mafia’s Anti-Christian Bigotry
De Blasio sends officials to “monitor” Samaritan’s Purse medical-relief efforts.
As America and New York City in particular struggle to combat the China Virus pandemic, volunteer organizations have rushed to the city to provide help. One in particular has been involved in setting a makeshift field hospital in Central Park, and working with Mount Sinai to help with the hospital’s overflow of patients. That organization is Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian relief ministry headed by Franklin Graham, son of the late Billy Graham.
Graham, who helped organize the relief effort, clearly explained the organization’s motive: “We are deploying our Emergency Field Hospital to New York to help carry this burden. This is what Samaritan’s Purse does — we respond in the middle of crises to help people in Jesus’ Name. Please pray for our teams and for everyone around the world affected by the virus.”
Responding to viral outbreaks is not new territory for Samaritan’s Purse, as its workers were in Liberia back in 2014 on the frontlines helping to contain the Ebola outbreak. In other words, these are Christians who take their faith seriously by putting into practice Jesus’ admonition to help the least of these — the poor, sick and needy.
However, Samaritan’s Purse’s presence in New York City has not been welcomed by all as objections have come from none other than the Rainbow Mafia. The usual suspects falsely insist that the organization’s commitment to the biblical sexual ethic equates to discrimination against the LGBT community.
Graham said, “We’re going to give the best healthcare we can to all New Yorkers. It doesn’t matter who they are or what they are. We’re going to give them the best medical care that we possibly can in Jesus’ name.” Despite that and with absolutely no supporting evidence, members of the Rainbow Mafia asserted that the presence of Samaritan’s Purse was potentially dangerous. Medical anthropologist Jacklyn Grace Lacey ridiculously claimed, “I am tremendously concerned [Samaritan’s Purse] will hurt far more of our fellow New Yorkers than they will help.”
New York state Senator Brad Hoylman blasted: “It’s unacceptable that a New Yorker infected with COVID-19 could be subjected to discriminatory treatment from an organization whose leader calls us ‘immoral’ and ‘detestable.’”
Well, instead of ignoring this nonsense and focusing on more pressing matters like making sure there are enough beds to hold the sick, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio — with a list of failures of his own — bowed to Rainbow Mafia concerns. “I said immediately to my team what we needed to find out exactly what was happening,” he declared. “Was there going to be an approach that was truly consistent with the values and the laws in New York City, that everyone would be served and served equally?” De Blasio then added, “We’re going to send people over from the Mayor’s Office to monitor” the field hospital.
PJ Media’s Tyler O'Neil astutely notes, “De Blasio wouldn’t dream of announcing he would ‘monitor’ a pro-LGBT charity that stepped in to help with the coronavirus outbreak to make sure it didn’t discriminate against conservatives. Yet he claims to find it ‘very troubling’ that a conservative Christian group would offer crucial health care in the midst of a crisis — just because it’s Christian.” If it weren’t for double standards, leftists wouldn’t have any.
