Biden Continues to Torment Our Border Patrol Agents
The administration’s obsession with punishing two mounted Border Patrol agents is sick indeed.
Is there a worse job in all the world than working for the U.S. Border Patrol under Joe Biden?
We think not.
Imagine working for a boss who not only fails to support you but also actively seeks to demonize you and punish you for simply doing your job. That’s what our Border Patrol agents are up against.
Nearly a year ago, two guardians of our southern border became political pawns of the Open Borders Left when they were photographed patrolling the border on horseback and using their long reins to control their horses as they came in close contact with some illegal immigrants from Haiti. In short, they were doing precisely what they’d been trained to do.
The cherry-picked photographs told a lie, and the Leftmedia spread that lie around the world before the truth could get its pants on. And the American president — whose job it is to protect our borders, and whose derelict refusal to do so is a legitimately impeachable offense — immediately and disgracefully threw his men under the bus. Said Biden:
It was horrible what you saw. To see people treated like they did, horses barely running over, people being strapped — it’s outrageous. I promise you, those people will pay. … There will be consequences. It’s an embarrassment. But beyond an embarrassment, it’s dangerous. It’s wrong. It sends the wrong message around the world. It sends the wrong message at home. It’s simply not who we are.
Not surprisingly, Kamala Harris also piled on, demanding “consequences and accountability” before comparing the incident to the treatment of American blacks “in times of slavery.” Department of Homeland Security head Alejandro Mayorkas was no better, saying, “We know that those images painfully conjured up the worst evidence of our nations ongoing battle against systemic racism.”
Whatever. These words are as despicable today as they were then.
We assumed, though, that as the truth came out, and as reasonable people began to realize that the “whipping” charge was an utter lie and that these Border Patrol agents were simply patrolling the border, that Biden would quietly walk back from his irresponsible rhetoric and his vow that “those people will pay.”
We were wrong. After having been smeared so publicly, and having been shamefully assigned to desk duties, the agents were quietly cleared of criminal wrongdoing in April, seven months after the incident. But that didn’t sit well with the Biden administration. And so, this week, we learned that the agents will yet be disciplined. As Fox News reports: “DHS will be putting forth proposals to discipline the agents who will have a chance to respond to the charges. The charges … are ‘administrative violations,’ and do not amount to criminal conduct — of which the agents were previously cleared.”
Ah, “administrative violations.”
Translation: You did your job, so we’re going to make an example of you.
“From the beginning,” said National Border Patrol Council President Jon Anfinsen, “they had been convicted by the White House and DHS, so we figured something was coming.”
Anfinsen continued: “But for them to claim that it was going to be resolved in days and weeks was, frankly, a joke from the beginning. … So they’re trying to save face and propose some kind of discipline just so they can justify their claims from day one.”
Is it any wonder, then, that border crossings in May were 32% higher than last year, and 300% higher than the average May under Donald Trump? Is it any wonder our nation’s Border Patrol agents are more demoralized than ever?
UPDATE: Four national Border Patrol chiefs and five other top-ranking officials from the Bush, Obama, and Trump administrations have sent a letter to the Biden administration which warns against disciplining these agents, due to the prejudicial statements of both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
