“Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote ... that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country.” —Samuel Adams (1781)

Ahead of next week’s midterm elections and their critical implications for American Liberty, the current political layup has some similarities to a midterm 20 years ago, evoking the inimitable words of that great philosopher Yogi Berra: “It’s déjà vu all over again.”

Or is it?

While political swings tend to be the rule, as I outlined last week in “The Demos’ Lunatic Midterm Lineup” regarding the radical leftist Senate candidates in Michigan and Texas, I make no claim to be a political prognosticator. The fact is, most media polls underrepresent conservative voters, and public trust in the mainstream media is at an all-time low.

Despite the fact some things are trending upward for Republicans, though very late in the election cycle, the Leftmedia platforms insist this is going to be a replay of the 2006 midterms because of circumstantial similarities.

In that midterm election during George W. Bush’s second term, his polling numbers had plummeted to 38%, about where Donald Trump is today, though notably, Trump’s approval is rising. There was war in the Middle East — Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom raged on despite the Bush administration’s assertion that these conflicts would end quickly. Consequently, two-thirds of Americans were unsatisfied with the direction of the country, and rising fuel prices were a concern.

Democrats opportunistically seized on those issues, and the result was the predicted blue wave, in which the Demos gained 31 seats in the House and six seats in the Senate to take control of Congress. They also won a majority of governorships and took over some state legislatures.

And that election had a vibe shadow of the one between Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter, the latter of whom Trump regularly refers to as “the worst president in history.” (My candidate for that title would be Joe Biden.) At the time, Carter was besieged by the Iran Hostage Crisis, high inflation, rising fuel prices, and low approval ratings. In addition to Reagan’s resounding win in the 1980 presidential race, that year Republicans picked up 35 House seats and 12 Senate seats.

However, past midterm performance does not guarantee future election returns.

There are significant differences between those elections and this midterm, and despite being subjected to constant misinformation by the Democrats and their Leftmedia talkingheads and scribes, those differences could favor Republicans enough to hold off loss of the House and Senate.

Notably, only three times since 1900 has the political party of a sitting president gained House seats in a midterm election, but two of those were in recent history. In 1998, Demos gained five House seats during Bill Clinton’s second term, largely due to Republicans’ impeachment efforts. And in 2002 during George W. Bush’s first term, Republicans gained eight House seats, perhaps due it its proximity to 9/11 and our nation’s heightened national security posture.

This year, by rational standards, this should be a fourth instance of midterm gains, given the booming economy, but “rational” is often a bridge too far when it comes to politics.

The Trump administration’s successful efforts to Make America Great Again after the economic debacle it inherited from Joe Biden have been undermined by the MSM and thus underappreciated. The economy is strong; core inflation, at 2.6%, is the lowest in five years; and income is up, poverty is down, and jobs are plentiful. In addition, as our Nate Jackson noted yesterday, violent crime has nosedived and Trump has secured our borders.

But the socialist Democrat Party made “affordability” their midterm campaign mantra last year. That dovetails well with their latest socialist appeal rhetoric, despite the fact that a supermajority of Democrat voters say they support capitalism over socialism.

That prompted Donald Trump to launch his affordability tour last December but to no avail.

Moreover, in June 2025, Trump began investing a lot of political capital and military capacity to protect the West from the very real and perilous threat of a nuclear attack by Iranian surrogates. This started a conflict that, like most in that region, will result in kinetic flareups for the next decade. The consequences of that Iranian threat were and remain exponentially larger than the 9/11 Islamist attack on our nation 25 years ago.

An indication this week of just how significant that catastrophic nuke scenario is, given that it would provide an opening for the ChiComs in the Pacific and other adversaries, the Department of War is ramping up its doomsday military capabilities in order to retain offensive capabilities in the event of such an attack.

Unfortunately, Trump never made his case with the voting public for prosecuting the Iranian nuke threat.

And on another national security front, despite his extraordinary success reestablishing border security, it took Trump a year to get his messaging on Ice right, too little too late.

Thus, the economy — or “affordability,” to be more specific — remains the biggest voter concern. Notably though, government corruption also ranks high, which is why the Trump administration has focused so much attention on fraud over the last six months, investigations headed by JD Vance. And BILLIONS in fraud has been uncovered since then.

But “affordability” will have the greatest impact on this midterm.

The Trump administration’s domestic and foreign policy successes notwithstanding, the inflation bomb Biden dropped on consumer goods before Trump took office increased prices dramatically, and that is a more visceral day-to-day concern for voters than being saved from a catastrophic nuclear threat.

Demos know that most their constituents, and many independents, don’t care that the Trump administration contained the Bidenflation surge, which is why Trump’s affordability tour barely moved the needle.

Though Trump’s nonstop cross-country MAGA tour to fire up his base is helping Republicans, the dullard Demo consumers don’t understand that lower inflation rates don’t mean reduced prices, and Democrats have convinced their constituents that the failure to reduce prices is the Republicans’ fault.

And fitting right in with their affordability theme, Demos welcomed the temporary surge in fuel prices, effectively creating a disgraceful midterm political alliance between Demos and the Iranian mullahs.

So, regarding the tenor and tone of this midterm election...

I think political analyst Victor Davis Hanson has it right:

Rarely in American history have the two parties been so far apart or the choice between them so stark. In brief, Islamist-sympathizing socialism is on the ballot against free-market capitalism and American exceptionalism. ... The new Democratic agenda is not about lowering gas prices. Americans are being asked to hand Congress to what has become the most radical major party in U.S. history, as socialists and neo-communists believe they can finally win statewide races across the country. What would that entail? ... In short, treat this midterm election as the deep choice that it is.

Regarding the implications of this midterm election...

The stakes are very high for several reasons, but foremost among them is that the Demos are serious about stacking the Supreme Court — and if they can take control of the Senate this year and win the White House in 2028, they will do just that. And that is why I opened this column by declaring that the midterm elections have critical implications for American Liberty.

The increasingly socialist Democrat Party is at risk of being overtaken by the radical Democratic Socialists of America, and if you want to project what the implications will be for our nation, take a long hard look at the burning cities in Europe. Their ultimate goal is to align with the DSA and burn our cities, much as they attempted to do in 2020, prompted by the Demo hate hustlers.

Political pendulums swing left and right in a functioning Republic — but not so much in socialist states, which is precisely what Democrats are trying to create.

Finally, the Democrats and their Leftmedia propagandists have mastered the pollaganda effect, using polls as propaganda to influence election outcomes. Disregard the polling hype, especially fake polls like those discovered this week.

The only poll that counts is the one on Election Day!

If you are reading this, I don’t have to ask you to get out and vote! But we all have to get every conservative voter we know to the polls!
